Oh, that is evil. And so very, very true. Because while he may have never been successful in Turning a Graves before, that doesn’t mean that it will never happen. That you won’t have the dubious honor of being the first.

What do you want to bet that, after he wakes up in the hospital and the memories of what happened flood back, that Graves has a very private panic attack. Because his worst fear could have happened, if Jerry had been so inclined. He was defenseless, at his uncle’s mercy, and there would have been absolutely nothing he could have done to stop it from happening.

Mostly, I think they leave him alone. It’s at his own request, really - he understands what his parents did, and he even approves of it - his Dad saved an innocent person’s life from a monster, of course he’s proud of it. But at the same time - his father involving himself in the affairs of the Graves family brought them to Jerry’s attention. And that hurts. He doesn’t blame them, not quite, but there’s always the edge of knowledge - my family died because of yours.

Peter, in the movie, denies knowledge of vampires, despite the fact that he’s built up quite a collection and is perfectly aware of Jerry’s existence - I think he wanted to separate himself from the wizarding world, from magic, from everything that contributed to his family’s death. He isn’t like the Graves, who are trained practically from birth for this. He just - he just wants to be left alone. He doesn’t mind the Graves keeping track and dropping in for a visit once in a while, he certainly doesn’t mind the resources they provide him - texts on vampires, leads on buyers, tips that Uncle Jerry was last seen in such-and-such an area, best to not go vacationing there for a while - but it’s a distant relationship. Sort of like a cousin once removed.

Then, of course, Uncle Jerry bites it, and the Graves family is nun-uh, we’re adopting you. (He’s actually, much to his surprise, rather pleased by that. He missed it more then he realized). They don’t seem to mind his bad habits, they don’t seem to mind his cursing, it’s - a surprise, really, how much he’s not against interacting with the Wizarding World once again.
