That feeling when you hate chain posts but can’t stand someone possibly thinking you don’t like following them. Feel free to not reblog this, I’m not keeping track.

Pfft, of course. How dare they assume that they are a follower of Grindelwald, that guy is an asshole! Their Lord is so much better, how could they possibly think they would follow Grindelstank? (And of course Theseus teaches his niblings well. He knows what the magical law enforcement is like on a whole toward people like his niblings. He knows all too well).

And now my Gramander brain is going “What if this gets Graves intrigued and it ends up with him meeting Newt and falling in love with this man who is not afraid in the slightest to tell the Magical Community where to stick its prejudices…?

Headcanon: Real!Percival Graves took lessons from the Sam Vimes School of Policing.

…I now can’t stop imagining Graves displaying the classic Sam Vimes reaction whenever someone mentions ‘the divine right of kings’.

For your consideration: Picquery getting Graves to do things simply by telling him to stay out of it while counting on his immediate ‘the hell I will’ reaction.

Percival Graves. In the Congress Chamber. With the axe.

Percival Graves reading ‘Where’s My Cow?’ to the occamys every night at 6 o’clock. Percival Graves struggling with the Summoning Dark. Percival Graves defeating the Summoning Dark by being aggressively himself.

Percival Graves holding up his right hand and gravely intoning “I comma square bracket recruit’s name square bracket comma do solemnly swear by square bracket recruit’s deity of choice square bracket to uphold the Laws and Ordinances of the city of New York -”

The threat of Percival Graves going spare hanging over every auror who messed up. ‘Graves will go spare’ is the ultimate deterrent whispered to the foolish who’re about to do something stupid.

Percival Graves wearing his shoes down until they’re about to fall off, because it lets him feel the city streets through his boots.

Percival Graves sitting on the steps of the Woolworth building with a cup of hot chocolate.

*shakes fist at tumblr*. I’m sorry, friend, this is the first time I’ve seen your post - tumblr is ever hungry, it seems.

*is thoughtful*. I think it’s less a glamor and more Hogwarts itself Taking Steps. It’s - something between a glamor and a Fidelius charm; when Newt, Graves, and the Goldsteins are at Hogwarts as the Founders, people can look at them, can recognize them as the Founders, can take in their features - it’s simply that they cannot connect what they look like to their current incarnations. You could standing Godric!Graves next to a picture of Percival Graves, and a non-Founder would simply be unable to make the connection.

If that’s the case, I think that even the ghosts wouldn’t be able to note the similarities. It makes for a bit of cognitive dissonance for Newt, actually - keep in mind that he’s the only one of the four who attended Hogwarts the second time around. These are people that he knows, that he’s fond of, and they simply cannot recognize him.

I think that Helena Ravenclaw didn’t really have time to ponder the idea before Queenie Goldstein was politely knocking on the door to the Ravenclaw quarters, asking if she could come in.

Queenie has learned. Has learned that wisdom and intelligence are not the be-all-end-all. She has learned that family should have come first, before everything, and she just wants to say - she wants to say that she’s sorry. That she loves her daughter, and always has. She’s not expecting anything of her; Helena shouldn’t feel that she has to reciprocate her feelings, but her mother will always love her.

Thanks to the EXCELLENT set of founders!FBAWTFT characters recently posted by @classicalcassiopeia, I have the sudden urge to write/worldbuild more in that ‘verse.

Do! Do! *sets up camp*

The problem is, I have absolutely no ideas/inspiration jangling around, just the will to /write/. …wel, except for the scenario when Godric!Graves bodily puts himself between Salazar!Newt when they’s summoned back to Hogwarts, because like fuck is he repeating his greatest mistake ever. (He fought against Salazar Slytherin once. He should have fought for him - not in terms of following his doctrine, but to rescue his friend/almost lover from his own despair and fear.)

I mean, I’d be entirely up for seeing that scenario, but let’s see. Other possibilities:

- how does Theseus fit into all of this?

- Grindelwald’s reaction to finding himself faced with the four reincarnated founders of Hogwarts who are all pissed at him (with bonus extra, I’d really be interested in Dumbledore’s take on all of this as well)

- Newt finding their respective animal guardians for them (ok, so maybe I just want Tina with a grumpy badger and Graves being followed around by a lion while Queenie’s eagle just shakes its head at everyone)

Any of this hit on something?

I don’t think Theseus knows. Newt - Salazar never had a brother. Never had someone who loved him unreservedly as family, never really had a family - except for the other founders, and we all know how that turned out. He’s gone to great lengths to avoid the subject of his past life with Theseus, and if he has his way, Theseus will never know.

Honestly, I think I’m most interested in the various reactions to Newt. Because - for all that there are four Hogwarts Houses, for all that there are Four Founders, most people seem to have selectively edited their understanding of what it would mean for all the Founders to make a reappearance. It’s one thing to know, in the abstract, that four immensely powerful witches and wizards constructed Hogwarts; it’s another thing entirely to meet blue eyes anre realize that that number includes Salazar Slytherin, infamous Dark Wizard.

…For some reason, I see Tina summoned first. (That’s how it plays out in my mind; the Sorting Hat lets slip that the Founders have reincarnated, and - well. There’s a very old spell, worked into the foundations of Hogwarts, that would call its creators home… And some people can’t resist using it). Tina accepts no excuses as she tears the wizards at Hogwarts a new one, roaring about how they had no right. Queenie is the next to follow as she apparates/lets the summoning take her; she appears in a burst of blue-and-bronze fire, dreamily telling Tina that ‘the boys’ are - well. What did you expect? ‘Himself’ is very upset, and Godric is doing his best to comfort him, but - her own castigation of the assembled witches and wizards is interrupted as Graves promptly explodes into being in a surge of red-and-gold flames; he does not pull any punches, and indeed is the first to pull out his wand as he stalks forward.

Any awe the assembled wizards might feel upon meeting Godric Gryffindor is overtaken by confusion as Tina interrupts what would be a vicious fight to anxious inquire ‘how is he?’ That stops Graves in his tracks; he paused, turns slightly towards her, a snarl in his clipped voice as he responds. ‘How do you think, Helga? He’s falling apart. He’s in exactly the same state that he was in that time in the park; he can’t think, he can’t breathe -’

Graves is interrupted by a burst of green-and-silver flames, and Newt steps into the Headmaster’s office, eyes fixed on the floor.

He doesn’t look up. He can’t; he steps forward, shaking slightly as he stumbles towards his friends, towards his family, towards Godric - Godric, who slings an arm around his shoulder, pressing their foreheads together in a wordless reassurance before stepping in front of the redhead, the Goldsteins at either shoulder as they form a united front between Newt and the rest of the world.

i stroll into heaven straight chillin and i look around. i know he is here. i must find him. i must ask him the question that has haunted me all my life.

when i finally find him, victor hugo, i walk up and take him roughly by the lapels.

“COMMENT S’APPELLAIENT-ILS, LES AMIS DE L’ABC? DISEZ-MOI MONSIEUR JE VOUS EN PRIE!“ he looks at this screaming lady, baffled. "JE DOIS SAVOIR MONSIEUR HUGO,” i implore.

he sighs gently and pats my hand.

“ils s’appellaient jean.”

“… les tous?”

“les tous, mon enfant.”

“vous etes le pire, monsieur hugo,” i spit bitterly, and let forth a cry that shakes the heavens: “THEY WERE ALL NAMED JEAN”
