So this is one of those AU’s were when you see your soulmate you remember your past lives together that I wrote while in spain. Hope y’all like it.

so – you might have noticed – but I maybe set this in my TimeisCruel/Ardynson verse - ish (because I wrote this in the first week in Spain when I was having withdrawals)but anyway – Nyx was Ardyn’s son from before the curse and was Crown Prince of Solheim (like in TimeisCruel) but in this AU Nyx didn’t get cursed by Bahamut – he just died in a hunt when he was like 40 and in this new life he’s not actually related to Ardyn Noct was probably a noble or something so that they were equals – but I also like this idea of him maybe being a commoner or Nyx’s Shield or something? (Nice parallels with their new life) (ooo Noct as Gil’s nephew or smthg. He’d totally hate the way that Gil abandoned Ardyn and Nyx & when he learns his uncle is still alive?) anyway – Noct was killed on their way to Galahd after being separated from Ardyn (Nyx’s loved ones were being picked off one by one) (Nyx died before he learnt that his father lived) Ardyn tots spent the next 2000yrs trying to find Nyxs reincarnation while plotting his revenge and poss his own soulmate if I’m being cruel (would they even remember if they met? What with Ardyn being cursed as he was and still in the same life?) Ramuh totally kept Nyx & Noct from meeting until Noct turned 18 – because Nyx is his and he doesn’t want to hurt them and no kid deserves to get all those horrible memories dumped on themNyx is thankful – and it also explains the odd occurrences that happened every time they were meant to be in the same vicinity When Noct remembers that he’s descended from Somnus? There’s gonna be hell to pay (he’d totally summon Somnus/Bahamut just to scream at them. Because he can do that now)(Would Nyx keep his magic? Hmmm. I like the idea of him getting it back when Ardyn sees him again and claims him as his son regardless of lifetimes and then Nyx feels his magic come back to him from where it had been with his father) Cause Ardyn will eventually find his son again and he’ll be so happy – right up until he hears that his own brother had his sons soulmate killed Also known as that AU that I made up purely to torture Nyx Nyx and Noct would really like it if the other would just stop sacrificing themselves for them

*sniffs, sobs* Okay, so this - this was heartbreaking? The story, coiling back on itself in an endless cycle - they’ve come full circle, these two. Noctis stands where Nyx once did, the Prince of a prosperous kingdom; and now /Nyx/ is his guard, loyal beyond death.
And oh. Oh, but I /love/ imagining everyone’s reactions when they realize just what’s going on. the Prince of Lucis has found his soulmate, and it’s - there’s history here, rough and rich and painful. There’s a side of Noctis that no one knew existed, a grief and a maturity that was far too dearly bought. And Nyx - Nyx seems the same as ever - and that leads people to wonder just how much of his attitude was a mask to begin with.
And yes to the tags. YES to Ardyn coming and Nyx /recognizing/ his father and Ardyn recognizing him, and - Nyx was a Lucis Caelum once, with magic bound irrefutably to his soul. And such things are not easily undone; once a King or Queen (or prince or princess), always a king or queen (or prince or princess). It just took remembering - it just took his father, the the father who once gave him that magic for it to come surging back once again.
And to add to this - this means that Ardyn knew /Noctis/ once. Knew his son’s soulmate, and approved of him - and now his foster son (because he was Nyx’s /brother/, of course Noct was his son-in-all-but-blood) is a Prince of Lucis? One of Somnus’ descendants? The Chosen King? Such an irony. (Noctis is probably - quietly thrilled at the idea of being actually blood-related to Ardyn, no matter how distantly - he always looked up to the man. Liked him.)
…of course, the fact that Noctis recognizes him at first glance, and then probably starts swearing terrible vengeance on - Bahamut and Somnus and everyone who ever /hurt/ Ardyn and Nyx to begin with probably makes him blink. And then grin. Because /that’s/ his almost-sort-of-son. And oh, but that flips the chessboard entirely.
And re: Ardyn’s soulmate - Tempted to suggest that it be Cor. Just for the lols. And that it be their first life together - the first life they’ve ever actually /met/.
