Moral Quandry
May. 1st, 2011 04:46 pmA parable - (no offense intended to any members of the faith)
A woman went to church today. She listened earnestly to the service, bowing her head in unison with the rest of the congregation and reciting the litanies of her faith. Towards the end of the sermon, she rose in unison with the rest of the audience to receive Holy Communion, before leaving to conduct her weekly shopping at the local supermarket.
A woman slept in today. She decided to take a long walk downtown, buying a cup of lemonaide for fifty cents from a neighborhood child. She ate a hamburger from a local chain store, slowing her steps to browse through the market stalls lining the sides of the street. She watched a local Native American celebration before continuing on, with no destination in mind. She gave a dollar to a man standing outside a coffee store who told the customers that he needed money for food. Later on, a (different) man asked her if she would buy him a cup of coffee. She walked to the cash register, got change for a twenty, and gave him five dollars. The cashier came up to her later, telling her that he was impressed and offering her a free drink. She declined. Afterwards, she worked on an assignment for work before heading down to the local supermarket to buy supplies for dinner.
I have been both of these women.
