Dec. 7th, 2013 09:48 pmSince ‘The Day of the Doctor’ came out (fantastic. Brilliant. Lovely!) I have been rediscovering my love for all things Whovian (this has a negative impact on my academic life, sad to say). The Doctor and the Ponds are a particular favorite of mine.
As some of you may know, I’m the kind of person who likes to speculate - fic ideas, might-have-beens, what-have-yous. That kinda thing. My most recent idea? Well - some of you may know that before ‘The Angels Take Manhatten’ came out, there was a theory that Rory might be a fobwatched Master. (Don’t buy it myself, personally - I mean, I LOVE the Rory-is-the-Master fanon, but canon he was just - perfect.). Considering that I happen to ship the Doctor/Master and Rory/Amy/Doctor is one of my OTPs (my others happen to include Vimes/Sybil/Vetinari, just fyi) my brain started to work at the idea.
Leading to a What-If…
What if Rory were a fobwatched Master and Amy a fobwatched Rani?
Rory’s had two thousand years as a human, and I imagine that length of time as a being other then The Master would have an impact on his core personality, resulting in a person who is a blend of Rory and the Master. And the Rani - I think she’d be the kind of person who would tinker with the Chamelon arch, because the idea of being so utterly out of control wouldn’t sit well with her at all. Master!Rory and Rani!Amy, with their personalities a perfect blend of both - who would have guessed that prolonged exposure to the Chamelon Arch served as perhaps the best therapy for amoral Time Lords in existence?
And The Doctor?
The Doctor would still have Amy and Rory, but he’d have his childhood friends/crushes back as well. And they’d be SANE. The best of both; he wouldn’t be *alone* anymore, he’d have friends, companions, who wouldn’t die on him, who would understand exactly what he was talking about and what kind of person he was… He’d probably be overcome with feels.
So.
The Doctor/Master!Rory/Rani!Amy.
