After reading a bunch of stories featuring mercy, practicality, and ruthlessness in equal measure, I have to wonder.

At once point in time is it morally correct to eschew mercy - the hope that people can be BETTER - in favor of cold-blooded practicality? (Removing a threat before it has the chance to grow into something serious). I’ve seen people arguing both for and against this in various works.

Please help

I hate doing this, but my family really needs help. Last night my mom, the toughest person I’ve ever known, lost her battle against cancer. About my mom—she was a two-time cancer survivor with immense inner strength the likes of which I have never seen in anyone else. My mom was first diagnosed with breast-cancer twenty years ago when she was pregnant with her fourth child. The doctors told her the nutrients her body was producing for the baby where helping the tumor grow, they urged her to abort, warned her that if she carried the baby to term she and the child had at best a 2% chance of survival. My mom refused to give up she had three chemos while pregnant then gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who has grown into a beautiful young woman I’m proud to have as a little sister.  Cancer reared its ugly head again eight years later and my mom prayed to God to just let her see her babies grown. God answered her prayers, she beat the cancer again. Unfortunately, after six years of remission the cancer came back worse than ever before. For seven long years she fought but there is only so much a body can take before it shuts down. My mom is gone now, after twenty years of fighting the cancer finally won. Her final wishes are to be laid to rest in Mexico with her brothers and father. My family desperately wants to grant her final wish, but the funeral and transportation cost are too much and we really need help.
