I’ve had this blog for 6 years now but today I’m breaking my anonymity to ask for your help.

Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico on Wednesday (September 20th) and my family has not heard from my grandmother since. She lives in Fajardo, a town on the east coast where the Hurricane first hit, causing a storm surge up to 9 feet.

My abuela has diabetes and systolic heart failure (her heart is working at 50% capacity). It’s important that she takes her meds daily but we currently don’t know if she has access to it.

The power is down and cell phone towers are destroyed. There is no means of communication. The only news we have from Fajardo are pictures that offer us no consolation.

These are the images coming from my town in Puerto Rico:

My mother and I are trying to fly to Puerto Rico as soon as possible but most of the airport is flooded and American Airline (the only airline offering flights to Puerto Rico) is charging over $1,000 one-way per person.

We’re not asking for much, just the bare minimum we need to fly to Puerto Rico and check on my grandmother. If money permits, we will also buy a generator to ensure she has access to electricity in order to cook and recover.

Please donate what you can, and if you cannot, please reblog.

Reasons why Rhaegar Targaryen’s a piece of shit:

Publicly humiliated his wife

Abandoned his wife and kids

Caused a war

Impregnated a 15 year old girl knowing full well the dangers of childbirth for someone so young

Trapped said 15 year old girl in a tower so she didn’t even know what happened to her family

Tower of Joy is in Dorne

Didn’t bother insuring the protection of his wife and kids

Waited until the last minute to make an appearance to a war that overthrew his House

Even in his dying moments he didn’t bother to think about his kids

Caused the deaths of thousands of people

11. Didn’t make sure the pregnant fifteen year old had access to a maester or midwife.

12. Allowed the girls brother and father to be murdered by his own father.

dearnonnatives:

Fort Gibson High School sophomores used historical events of native people being used in human zoos as a way to show “school rivalry”.

This school is Cherokee nation, at a school with a large number of native people, and they mocked the trauma and oppression of native people.

The school principal and superintendent brushed off the issue. I’m tired of white people getting away with this stuff. White people and POC (including natives) with a colonized mindset will always use the excuse “well I’m not offended so you shouldn’t be” as a way to silence racism.

Guess what? Native American oppression is not an accessory.

and they honestly deserve it WITHOUT having to relocate themselves, their family, and their WHOLE community.

Or neglecting part of their identity or culture

Or being judged for taking money or resources they are already owed.

from a friend in northern ontario. $43 for shitty mass produced muffins that cost $6 down south/in the city

here, have some wilted asparagus at the cheapest low quality grocery story

THIS is why i get so angry when non-natives say, “just go to the grocery store! you don’t need to hunt such and such animal bc of _______ bullshit reason!” Like NO. it’s not as simple as that. going to the store ? this is what you see ^^^^ please educate yourself. I am so very tired of the ignorance and assumptions that all people in america have the same basic amenities. Also stop ridiculing NDN people who hunt their traditional way on THEIR traditional hunting grounds. whatever the “problematic” animal may be. Those animals were put here by the creator FOR indigenous peoples, to live belong side us in harmony and good health, and to feed the people when the time comes. ALL ndn people of the “americas” are hunter/fathered people traditionally. respect our ways of life or GTFO.

👆🏾👆🏾👆🏾

I feel like this article is relevant here, especially with that last comment:

http://ift.tt/2uTng6a

Be aware that price-gouging is enourmously prevalent in Alaskan Native villages too, so here comes this young adult who goes out and kills a whale the traditional way, all to feed his village!!! ONE SINGLE WHALE.

Which by the way isn’t even endangered.

And you know what the animal rights’ activists do?

They sent him death threats.

All over a fucking NON-ENDANGERED whale.

This man is a hero in his village, he fed everyone there for days. Below-working class Alsaskan Natives who otherwise would’ve had to travel hours to get to the nearest grocery store.

Entitled vegans always say “well why don’t you just go to the store and buy fresh produce?”

Because there aren’t stores where Rez Natives live.

And if you’re lucky, you’ll find shit like the images above, you wanna pay $30 CA for some fucking asparagus???

Unless you’ve seen the Rez life and how shit is, then you need to shut the fuck up and keep your entitled shit to yourself.

tea-and-crystals:

If you buy pre-made herbal tea blends (usually have names like Bedtime, Calm, etc) check the ingredients. I just saw a Nighttime blend that had St. Johns Wort in it, which can be dangerous when mixed with some medications. Talk to you doctor what herbs you should avoid. (Especially when you want to ingest st. Johns wort or mugwort)

A simple hint to remember is just because its in a food store, doesn’t mean its safe.
