staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront.
I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.

“I used to think that loving somebody meant sacrificing anything for them. I thought it meant writing them a blank cheque. I thought it meant that you would die without each other. But it turns out that death and a broken heart are not he same. These days, I think that love is not so dramatic as all that. Maybe loving somebody means simply they bring out the best in you, and you bring out the best in them - so that together, you are always the best possible versions of yourselves.”

“They take these children into their care, strip them of identity, maybe even give them new names. They then cut their hair to all look the same and make them wear the same clothes, and live by an impossibly strict code that only serves to further their order. Sounds like a cult, doesn’t it? Well, it’s a cult that we as taxpayers subsidize. A cult that we empower to determine who’s right and who’s wrong in this galaxy. And according to them, a mother’s love is wrong”

Thrynka Padaunete on the Jedi Order to the Holonet News [x]
(via padawanlost)

thewillowbends replied

The lack of good PR for the Jedi Order is pretty remarkable considering much of their action IS in the name of the Republic.  It’s not like they’re doing this without the consent of the Senate.  I wonder how much of that was a result of the Republic lacking a standing army/police force, which forced the Jedi to shoulder the burden of both galactic peacekeeping AND being the face of the Republic, good or ill.
I mean, fundamentally, the Jedi/Republic situation isn’t fair to either side because by the time of the PT, the GFFA is just too massive for the Order to properly police with the numbers they’re working with and it puts way too much of the burden on the Jedi while the Senate gets to keep its hands clean.  It only really worked for a portion of the GFFA, and unfortunately, that small percentage held most of the wealth and power.

I wonder if I’ll ever cease to be amazed by the Jedi’s ability to take a shitty situation and make it worse. They knew they were overwhelmed and yet they were so set in their ways that they couldn’t even consider doing things differently.

All they had to do was let the kid go and keep an eye on her until the Sith was gone. If they could spare on Padawan to drive Yoda around, I’d bet they could’ve send someone to monitor a baby. That, and not sending the kid away to another planet when the public outrage grew. And, you know, not using mind-tricks on students protesting you.

In one move they confirmed the rumors they stole children, confirmed they used mind-tricks on regular citizens, showed their “authoritarian” tendencies and made themselves be compared to a cult. It’s like they were not even trying lol

Can you imagine what would have happened if the GFFA had Twitter? They would have been finished LOL

Of course, the senate remains silent in all this because Palpatne is having a blast watching the Jedi Council dig themselves into a hole.

via http://ift.tt/2gTMS1R:Destroy Oil Pipelines as a Thunderbird in this New Video Game:
ayellowbirds:

baapi-makwa:

In Thunderbird Strike, a new side-scrolling game that launches at the ImagineNATIVEfestival this week in Toronto, players can control a thunderbird—a symbol in several Indigenous cultures—that destroys as much of the oil industry’s machinery and pipelines as it possibly can. And it’s so satisfying.

The game was created by Elizabeth LaPensée, an Anishinaabe, Métis, and Irish games developer, and assistant professor of media and information at Michigan State University. She told me in an interview that she wanted to create a game where Indigenous players could reclaim some agency around oil pipelines, even if through a video game.

“Especially when we’re talking in the context of pipelines, and the oil industry, there are some wins we can have. But ultimately protectors will be pushed out and the processes are going to move forward. It’s happening with mining and it’s happening with pipelines,” LaPensée told me over the phone.

The creator of this game is getting attacked and defamed by oil lobbyists and racists

(and let’s be honest, the venn diagram circle of “oil lobbyists” is just a small circle in the larger circle of “racists”) and could really use support and advocacy:

tweets via @nativeapprops on twitter. Here’s the link to that “Framing Indigenous resistance as terrorism” piece, and here’s the game’s creator’s twitter.

A handy list of poisons for writing reference, provided to you by me, Bella

Poisoning is one of the oldest murder tactics in the books. It was the old equalizer, and while it’s often associated with women, historically men are no less likely to poison you. This is not a guide on how to poison people, you banana bunches, it’s a guide on writing about poisons in fiction so you don’t end up on a watch list while researching them. I’ve taken that hit for you. You’re welcome. These are just a few of the more classic ones.

Hemlock: Hemlock (conium maculatum) is one of the more famous ones, used in ancient times most notably in Socrates’ forced suicide execution. So it goes. The plant has bunches of small, white flowers, and can grow up to ten feet tall. It’s a rather panicky way to die, although it wouldn’t show: hemlock is a paralytic, so the cause of death is most often asphyxiation due to respiratory paralysis, although the mind remains unaffected and aware.

Belladonna: Atropa belladonna is also called deadly nightshade. It has pretty, trumpet-shaped purple flowers and dark, shiny berries that actually look really delicious which is ironic since it’s the most toxic part of the plant. The entire plant is poisonous, mind you, but the berries are the most. One of the most potent poisons in its hemisphere, it was used as a beauty treatment, so the story says, and rubbed into the eyes to make the eyes dilate and the cheeks flush. Hench the name beautiful lady. The death is more lethargic than hemlock, although its symptoms are worse: dilated pupils, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, tachycardia, loss of balance, staggering, headache, rash, flushing, severely dry mouth and throat, slurred speech, urinary retention, constipation, confusion, hallucinations, delirium, and convulsions. It’s toxic to animals, but cattle and rabbits can eat it just fine, for some reason.

Arsenic: Arsenic comes from a metalloid and not a plant, unlike the others here, but it’s easily the most famous and is still used today. Instead of being distilled from a plant, chunks of arsenic are dug up or mined. It was once used as a treatment for STDs, and also for pest control and blacksmithing, which was how many poisoners got access to it. It was popular in the middle ages because it looked like a cholera death, due to acute symptoms including stomach cramps, diarrhea, confusion, convulsions, vomiting, and death. Slow poisoning looked more like a heart attack. The Italians famously claimed that a little arsenic improved the taste of wine.

Strychnine: Strychnine (strick-nine) is made from the seed of strychnos nux vomica and causes poisoning which results in muscular convulsions and eventually death through asphyxia. Convulsions appear after inhalation or injection—very quickly, within minutes—and take somewhat longer to manifest after ingestion, around approximately 15 minutes. With a very high dose, brain death can occur in 15 to 30 minutes. If a lower dose is ingested, other symptoms begin to develop, including seizures, cramping, stiffness, hypervigilance, and agitation. Seizures caused by strychnine poisoning can start as early as 15 minutes after exposure and last 12 – 24 hours. They are often triggered by sights, sounds, or touch and can cause other adverse symptoms, including overheating, kidney failure, metabolic and respiratory acidosis. During seizures, abnormal dilation, protrusion of the eyes, and involuntary eye movements may occur. It is also slightly hallucinogenic and is sometimes used to cut narcotics. It also notably has no antidote. In low doses, some use it as a performance enhancer.

Curare: Chondrodendron tomentosum is lesser known than its famous cousins, but kills in a very similar way to hemlock. It is slow and terrible, as the victim is aware and the heart may beat for many minutes after the rest of the body is paralyzed. If artificial respiration is given until the poison subsides, the victim will survive.

Wolfsbane: Aconitum has several names; Monkshood, aconite, Queen of Poisons, women’s bane, devil’s helmet) and is a pretty, purple plant with gourd-shaped flowers. The root is the most potent for distillation. Marked symptoms may appear almost immediately, usually not later than one hour, and with large doses death is near instantaneous. Death usually occurs within two to six hours in fatal poisoning. The initial signs are gastrointestinal including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. This is followed by a sensation of burning, tingling, and numbness in the mouth and face, and of burning in the abdomen. In severe poisonings pronounced motor weakness occurs and sensations of tingling and numbness spread to the limbs. The plant should be handled with gloves, as the poison can seep into the skin.

Foxglove: Digitalis is large with trumpet-shaped flowers that can be many colors, but usually a pinkish shade. It may have from the term foxes-glew, which translated to fairy music. Intoxication causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as sometimes resulting in xanthopsia (jaundiced or yellow vision) and the appearance of blurred outlines (halos), drooling, abnormal heart rate, cardiac arrhythmias, weakness, collapse, dilated pupils, tremors, seizures, and even death. Slowed heartbeat also occurs. Because a frequent side effect of digitalis is reduction of appetite and the mortality rate is low, some individuals have used the drug as a weight-loss aid. It looks a bit like comfrey, which is an aid for inflammation. Make sure not to confuse the two.

((I made myself sad.))

How could you

((I knew it was going to be this song. I shall now cry in a corner.))

He was dead. Desmond, as he stood in a field of pure white knew he was dead, simply because he stood in the light; because he stood in the light and he was alone.

Or so he’d thought at first. But far in the distance there were figures, shadows upon the horizon and they were moving, not threatening so, but moving away from him. He called out, begging that they wait, but no noise came from his lips and the shadows did not stop for him. His feet moved before his mind did, and he was chasing after them, knowing, knowing for some reason that he must catch up.

There was not far to run, for after but a few steps he froze in place and he realized who it was that stood in the distance. All his ancestors, gathered upon the horizon and before him – Altair, Altair as he had been when Desmond had known him, young and straight-backed and looking at him. Or rather, he was looking through him; through him in the way that he had looked through Ezio many times in the distant past.

From behind him came Maria, still in her youth and every bit the spirited figure Altair had fallen in love with. Maria who Desmond had seen die before her husband, who had once passed from the world in his arms and to either side of him their sons, who seemed to come from nowhere and passed, passed not only by him, but by Altair as well, each slipping by not without placing a hand on their father’s shoulders before continuing, becoming shadows in the distance and Maria followed, only she did not become a shadow and she squeezed Altair’s hand before moving past him. Then came Malik as Desmond remembered him, who Altair took in an embrace. They looked at each other for what seemed like a long time, with Desmond watching and then Malik joined Maria not far ahead of Altair. When they had passed, Altair looked at him; not through him, as he had before, but directly at him, acknowledging him and there was a smile upon his face. A smile that said he had found the peace he had searched for throughout his life and never fully found. Then he turned away.

Then it was Ezio who passed him, young once more and with his family at his side. His brothers, his sister his father and his mother and all those he had known in that time, but as he stopped, they continued and disappeared, with Leonardo short behind, who hugged Ezio quickly before hurrying off after them. Sofia and the family he would later came to have danced passed him, Caterina and Cristina both before them and then there was Yusuf, the grinning fool that he was, who kissed either side of Ezio’s face, clapped him hard on the back and still laughing, continued. Ezio, like Altair had a smile upon his face, and where Altair had only nodded to acknowledge him Ezio waved, a picture of serenity as he turned, and suddenly he too was dressed in the Assassin whites.

Desmond almost stepped forward to join them, but then there was Connor, who hadn’t passed him at all but materialized from nowhere. Ahead of him those who had been his enemies, but apparently no longer, walked and turned to shadows, Lee, Hickey, Pitcairn, all those he had assassinated and then Achilles and who had been his closest friend, who each nodded to him before they moved into the shadows. Connor made to walk, but then Haytham and Ziio were each there, Ziio pinching her son’s cheek and Haytham resting a hand on his shoulder. They only stared at each other for a long time, nodded and Desmond knew that they had reconciled in death and together Ziio and Haytham disappeared, like the others had. Connor looked back at him, and like Altair, only nodded, but he too wore a smile upon his face and turned, jogging a little to catch up.

Draped in warmth and comfort, Desmond took a step forward, and there was Clay, turned to him and more at peace than he had ever known him and Lucy, smiling apologetically, but smiling nonetheless. He was still, and Clay gestured for him to join them, and Lucy, with a hand extended, mouthed something that might have been ‘hurry up’ to him. They were all walking together, he knew, they were showing him the path toward the light, where there would be a peace at last. The rest they had all been waiting for. And he followed, moving to join his ancestors, to join Clay and Lucy and as an eagle soared overhead, he knew that in death, he was home.

YEEEEEEEEESSSS. (I could totally give you the password for my Netflix account if you want to watch it. I wouldn’t mind at all). Although, then I wonder about Mike. Because they are played by the same actor. Unless we just ignore that. (Although the idea of Gabriel having to deal with twins is hilarious).

She and Richie would actually be around the same age in the new canon since the new It has their childhood set in the 80s. Hmm, maybe her father was a Grigori, one of the rogue angels who feed on souls? But they came to care about Terry and when they realized she was pregnant, they left her alone to protect her and the baby. Except that didn’t work out because Brenner kidnapped her.

Oh boy, oh boy, if she and Richie were the same age, that would mean that it would be Gabriel who senses her powers coming to, along with Richie. And he would be pissed when he found out what she went through. Especially when he finds out that her “name” is Eleven. A number.
