I love to hate the Astrals as much as anyone in the fandom, but - well, there are one or two Astral-positive stories that I really do enjoy.
@sparklecryptid @notavodkashot @lectorel @theotherguysride @sanjuno
Tissue Houses, by murderlight
Bahamut watches over a small baby from the great beyond, much to the initial bemusement of his fellow Astrals. Caught in the tormented net of their own oaths, one by one they invest in the tale of a nothing king, just one more pawn in the Lucian line.
Or, Regis has a fan club he never knew about in life, and is about to meet in death.
Corner of First, by LuxKing
The Gods can walk among humans.
Shiva does. She is not alone.

God. So do I.
I might. Write it. As soon as I figure out what they’d wind up as Astrals of and how to make it work.

I love this? I do. The thing about Galahdians are that they are, in my verse, very community oriented. So when they find out that the bastard prince is one of theirs, when they find out that the High Council and Royal Family showed up on his doorstep the day after the anniversary of the attack on Galahd they band together to show support.
So I can totally see Ace winding up with a group of Galahdians supporting him, following him to the Citadel to show their support.
It’s also a political statement in a way. The Galahdians are showing who they are backing, that Ace has their support and that they are willing to follow him. Ace handles their support with the grace of a king even though he’s a nervous wreck inside.
I doubt that many people would be allowed inside the Citadel, so now I’m just seeing Regis and Co. waiting on the steps of the Citadel as word of the crowd following Ace gets around. And, if he’s honest, Ace prefers the fact the crowd is almost forcing Regis to make a decision about whether to accept or turn him away right away.
“Your Majesty,” Ace says, and bows the way a prince does to a king.
“My son,” Regis says, “There is no need for formality.”

(cont) Also, Ardyn was one of the earliest is not THE first King of Lucius; comparatively - well. I had the sudden mental image of Jon!Noctis et al discovering the tomb of Bran the Builder, the First Stark, deep in the crypts of Winterfell. Except the statue looks very, VERY familiar. And, written on it in what the reincarnated!crew recognize as Lucian script, below the ‘Brandon Stark, First of His Name’ - “If I have to come back to life to fix shit again, I will be VERY UPSET”. (cont)
(cont) Figures that Ardyn would build a gigantic castle specifically because of the hot springs.
I am duly warned. ^_^
Oh yes, this is darling. Now, while Ardyn would tell the Astrals to fuck all the way off, it’s entirely possible that being the Accursed and therefor carrying the weight of all those extra lives that made him immortal had a few… let’s call them unexpected side effects when it comes to the afterlife party. So Ardyn kinda overshoots the Havens and lands in the dominion of the Old Gods.
