darthrevaan:

At the edge of the wood the God of War laid down his headTo sleep, weary and heavy of heart;

He woke to a soft bed of green summer leaves
And the God of the Forest whispering;

“What burden do you carry
that I might ease?”

Ace and Jean would stare, and then, as you said, jump him.

It’s not their fault that Nyx looks so pretty in their colors! And honestly, the fastest way to get a Lucis Caelum to notice you is likely to wear their colors because their MINE instincts? Very prominent.

Oh.

Yes.

And now I’m just, seeing someone find out that Jean is Ardyn’s son and that he’s been in Lucian territory for ages. He almost lives in Lucian territory now and that worries people, so they dig and find out who he’s friends with and brings them in for questioning. Crowe and Libertus and Nyx are suspended and Jean finds out about this and-

Well, he knows how much their jobs mean to them. He knows that they need those jobs. So he comes back to Insomnia but unlike all his other visits there are Crownsguards members waiting for him.

They bring him to a room, Cor is there and asks questions. Clarus comes in and asks more questions. Jean dodges and deflects and smiles and it’s not until Drautos comes in and threatens to have Crowe and Co. discharged that he drops the smiles.

His entire presence change, those watching from behind the glass can almost feel Jean’s presence fill the room and it’s-

Familiar almost. Because Jean is suddenly carrying himself like royalty, as if he was born for a crown. And Jean tells Drautos that in no uncertain terms that Crowe and Co. will be reinstated. That they didn’t know who Jean was either (Crowe did, but what they don't know won’t hurt them) and that Jean hasn’t learned anything from them.

(Jean carries himself like royalty but more importantly, he carries himself like a prince ready for battle, as if he was ready to attack to defend what he thought was his.

Regis sees this, and wonders.)

*laughing* Sudden idea for a reveal!AU where Regis et al discover Ace’s existence. Regis, after reading Ace’s file (he is determined to get this right!) sets out to meet his previously unknown son - Noctis is excited/giddy/apprehensive at the idea of having a brother, and Clarus, Cor, Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto tag along as well. They’re family too, aren’t they?

So the King et al knock on the door listed as Ace’s current address.

Apparently, however - well.

The one thing not listed in Ace’s file is that he is currently hugely pregnant. Eight months or so. And ready for the baby to get out already. He misses Nyx. (Who is current out on a mission, otherwise Ace would conscript him to make midnight ice cream runs and rub his ankles - oh, but Ace misses his feet.)

“Is this important?” Ace yells in response to the knock - he’s just managed to get comfortable on the couch, which is no small thing.

“Yes?” The voice sounds familiar, but Ace can’t quite place it as he drags himself to his feet, wincing - his kid loves to punch. Or kick. Or both.

“If this is anything less then a fucking emergency, I’m going to set Uncle on you.” Ace threatens as he drags the door open, only to blink at King Regis et al - who are currently blinking back at him - and then staring, in disbelief and (in Regis and Noctis’ case) growing glee at his swollen abdomen.

Ace is currently eight months pregnant and entirely unimpressed. “Am I being contacted because I’m the emergency contact for some of the Glaives?” He demands.

“No?”

“Then get out - ” Ace is interrupted by Regis spinning on his heels and ordering Clarus, in his best King-voice, to get a quart of fudge-ripple vanilla ice cream, bananas, pickles, dried seaweed, and watermelon juice immediately! This is a royal command! Get it here ASAP, Shield!

(Regis remembers the cravings that his late wife had very well towards the latter stages of her pregnancy.)

Ace blinks at his father. “Okay. You can stay.” He declares magnimoniously.

Noctis raises a hand tentatively. “Can I stay?”

Ace scrutinizes him briefly. “Can you reach high cupboards?”

“Yes?”

“Then sure.” And Ace winces as his unborn child punches him yet again.

(I thought I published this but it was in my drafts. Whoops)

Ace declares that his family can stay in a way that says he’s being generous. Regis has no doubt he is, he remembers what Aulea was like, what Gladio’s mother was like, and hell hath no fury like a pregnant person.

Regis is trying very hard not to coo. He is. He knows that it would likely wind up with him kicked out but his son has a baby in his belly and Regis wants to talk to it.

Noctis is the one that probably asks if he can touch Ace’s belly. Ace probably demands he get Ace some ice cream and only then Noctis is allowed to touch. The baby promptly kicks and Noctis is overjoyed.

Regis is slightly jealous.

When Gladio and Clarus come back, and everyone is settled into their seats. A family discussion is had. Ace is asked things that range from ‘what is your favorite color’ to ‘do you have any other family’ to ‘do i need to murder the man that knocked you up?’

Ace answers, and the questions he doesn’t want to answer he deflects. Then Clarus brings up the need of a Shield and Ace pauses, a thoughtful look on his face.

“Pretty sure my husband would want the job,” he says dryly, “He might have to fight Libertus for it though.”

“Who is your husband?” Ignis asks, “You’ve yet to tell us his name.”

“Or why he isn’t here,” Noctis adds.

“He’s a Glaive, little brother,” Ace says and ignores how Noctis preens at the words, “He’s out beyond the Wall right now. No, don’t you even think about calling him back father.”

Regis looks innocent.

Ace doesn’t buy it for a second.

“His name is Nyx.”

@sparklecryptid

Ace probably confesses that of course he’d rather his husband be here, of course he’s worried, but he accepted that this was part of Nyx’s job a long, long time ago, and besides, it makes him feel - content, knowing that Nyx is probably slaughtering deamons and MT infantry as they speak.

Regis et al are probably making plans to get a hold of Nyx’s complete and full file. It shouldn’t be hard; the man’s a Glaive, and had to pass some pretty stringent background checks as is; it’s just - waiting for them. Back at the Citadel.

Give-no-fucks!Ace is fun. He probably accepts offerings of ice cream and pickles in exchange for letting people touch/coo at his pregnant belly - wonder how long it is before people start lining up with various sweet things in order to get a chance to adore the unborn baby? And now I see Ace matter-of-factly talking about how Nyx is the best husband, he’s been doing all the right things since Ace got pregnant, up to and including running to the supermarket at three in the morning to satisfy his omega’s late-night cravings.

And then Ace talks wistfully about how he really wanted dragonfruit, but it’s literally impossible to get in Insomnia, and Regis - Clarus and Cor share a glance, look at Regis, and know that Regis is plotting an expedition to bring his eldest son all the dragonfruit his heart could desire. Ace just shrugs and eats another pickle.

sparklecryptid:

i keep thinking of jean being taken in by the lucians for questioning and then eventually drautos questions him and jean is playing a game with drautos because they both know jean knows who drautos is but then drautos makes a veiled threat to Nyx and Co. and jean-

doesn’t like that. so he leans back in his chair and smiles. “Well,” he drawls, hiding his fury beneath eyes as cold as steel, “I suppose you would be able to do that. Wouldn’t you Glauca?”

Those listening in freeze then erupt in mummurs. it cant be true can it? drautos looks like hes about to scoff but jean continues. “I know the Lord Marshal has my phone, the passcode is 0216. if you check the documents, you’ll many…hmm, interesting things”

they check the phone. drautos and jean are in a stare off, neither willing to move until something happens.

Cor and Clarus walk through the door, more Crownsguard behind them. jean shows teeth and drautos moves.

jean meets glauca’s sword with his trident.

ardyn has a kid au ▸  afterwards there are whispers ▸  because how could jean use magic? did niflheim create some sort of artificial magic? ▸  what is going on ▸  then jean meets regis and cheerfully calls him cousin

@sparklecryptid

Jean is probably: as yes, this is good, stress relief, hello misplaced aggression! as he fights Glauca. Not that it shows on his face - Jean isn’t smiling, or if it is, a thoroughly unnerving grin. Because this man hurt his boyfriend and his sister-in-all-but-blood, this man threatened them - and Jean is many things, but he’s never killed a mother in front of her child.

(He would. Jean knows that with a cold certainly. He’d do anything for his father. But this terrible thing - he has not done. Yet.)

Also Jean, to Regis et al: “Honestly. You people are surprisingly naive, sometimes. There are other branches of your bloodline - technically, mine is actually the eldest.” And then he bows, in the formal, florid grace usually reserved for High Court - the bow of one equal to another, and there is little respect in the gesture. “Permit me to introduce myself. My name - the terribly formal one I rather abhor - is Jovan Lucis Caelum.”
