hamelin-born replied to your post: Still. If and when Cor and Ardyn manage to get Nyx…
NICE. But - if I may ask, what exactly is Nyx doing? Greeting the dawn on the Spring equinox? Something a bit - more complicated? And /yes/ I love the sun cloth/sun thread, woven out of perfect happiness - so sappy, Ardyn. How long, do you think, before Cor gets a sun cloth garment of his own?
@hamelin-born
Nyx is basically claiming his home as his (theirs actually), it already was, but now there’s a big warning that everyone with sense would do their best to avoid. Which he also had already done but left incomplete because he didn’t exactly know what he was doing.
Cor does get his own sun thread garment at an appropriately dramatic moment. Ardyn is being entirely truthful that it’s not all that hard to do it. But that specific requirement is what makes it ridiculously rare.
They are all saps there is really no way to hide it they have no idea he actually included them in the claiming thing Nyx how are you so smooth when no one’s looking
@distressedherbalist
Nyx is only that smooth when he’s not trying to be smooth. And yes. Nyx gets a suncloth, and Cor gets a suncloth, and, at the appropriate moment, Ardyn will reveal his own sun thread garment. And, to Ardyn’s smug satisfaction, they will officially be the most stylish trio in all the worlds.
Huh. I now have the mental image of Nyx managing to - accidentally claim their home as theirs in the face of some kind of oncoming threat - and the warning slammed into said threat’s face like a two-by-four, giving it serious pause.
Are there any moments when all three of them get dressed up in their very best and don’t even pretend at being human anymore? For some reason, I - well. I get the mental image of Cor taking his lovers with him on a hunt once or twice - no debts, no obligations, just them and the thrill of the chase, the lure of the moon, and the sky spreading endlessly before them…
@hamelin-born
True, Nyx can only achieve that degree of smooth when he’s not aware of the significance of what he’s doing. Otherwise he might start second guessing himself. But don’t worry, he’ll grow out of it eventually. In the meantime it keeps amusing Cor and Ardyn a great deal.
Their sunclothes do cause the absolute envy of anyone that sees it. Cor smuggly guards the secret as to where he got his from everyone. (And also of how rare it is from Nyx until Ardyn gives him his, just to watch him flail about it.)
Nyx’s little house is in a rather special location. The number of beings that suddently find themselves barred from the immediate vicinity is rather astounding. The three-way warning just makes it so that not one will want to test the boundary.
And Cor does manage to get them to go on a hunt with him. Ardyn didn’t need much convincing, getting Nyx to buy into the idea what takes more work. It was, however, an exhilarating experience, and he would never be opposed to doing it again.
the initial freakout was amusing and memorable getting him to try new things is how they pass the time some particularly sensitive people might’ve seen them starting a new local legend oops
Ardyn and Cor love introducing Nyx to both faerie in general and his own non-human attributes - considering the well-nigh herculean effort it took to get Nyx to acknowledge that he himself wasn’t human? There’s a certain satisfaction in saying things or doing things that play directly into Nyx’s status as Fae, provoking actions and reactions that the man himself previously either 1) Entirely misinterpreted or 2) Didn’t even know existed. Strange foods, riding with the Wild Hunt, plants taken from the heart of Faerie, old customs and rituals (not to mention a few that probably take place in bed…)
Nyx himself probably felt his jaw drop the first time his lovers dropped the act and were quite blatantly Not Human. Not in fear - well, there was a little fear, but he was probably - thrilled as well.
A summer changeling just coming into the full force of his power, a canny, well-established Winter Hunter, an old, old King of Winter (once a king or queen of Faerie, always a king or queen of Faerie) - no, I can’t see why enemies wouldn’t avoid Nyx’s house like the plague.
…why do I see Cor introducing Nyx to ‘his old friend, Reggie’ when said old friend ‘stumbles’ across them during a casual date in a cafe - it’s only after ‘Reggie’ leaves that Cor informs Nyx he just met the current Winter King. (Nyx thought he was nice; he knew that ‘Reggie’ was a powerful Winter Fae, but he never thought that it was the king - ) Well. Ardyn is probably very grumpy when he finds out; it takes both Cor and Nyx to placate him (they had fun.)
@hamelin-born
Oh, after everything that had to happen to get him to admit it? They get increasingly pleased every time Nyx lets go of his misgivings about his own nature. And after the initial hurdle it gets increasingly easier to introduce him to Fae customs and activities.
As for the first time he saw them drop the act.. well. Nyx.exe has crashed, please wait for system to reboot. He still stares a lot when that happens, not quite believing he looks every bit as striking as them. They have still to get him in front of a mirror when that happens, shifting priorities and all.
Regis was being nosy curious about why his friend had taken to spend so much time in the mortal realm. Now he knows why, though the curiosity only got worse. Saying Ardyn was grumpy when he found out is underselling it by a lot. Nyx doesn’t get what the big deal is until he’s informed just who Cor’s ‘nice’ friend is. And though the flailing that ensued was definitely funny, it still takes their combined efforts to get him to calm down.
@distressedherbalist
Regis never, never thought that Cor would end up actually falling in love with a bright, cheerful Summer Fae. It’s everything he always wanted for his friend and never thought he would achieve; Regis is achingly happy that Cor has found happiness, and heads back to Winter with a smile on his face. (He might also tease Cor a little about ‘the death of his bachelorhood’ and his taste in romantic partners - but hey, they’re very old friends, and Cor is almost a little brother to him).
He still doesn’t know about Ardyn, though. Ardyn prefers it that way. And, honestly, Cor prefers it that way too - much less hassle all around. Although Ardyn’s reactions to learning about Regis’ visit were rather delicious - eventually.
Nyx honestly didn’t recognize himself in the mirror the first time Cor and Ardyn dressed him ‘as befitting of his station’ and had him channel the full force of his glory as a Summer Fae. I’d imagine that the Equinoxes and the Solstices are fun times for all of them - an excuse for an evening in, if nothing else.
What is Nyx’s job? Probably something to do with plants, if I had to take a guess.
