Aw thank you! I enjoy your work too :3

I’m tickled pink that others love the idea of Titus having two moms that are Original Badasses™ because I live for this hc ok

Just-

Just this swashbuckling Altissian woman who may or may not be smuggling goods to fuck over Emperor Aldercapt’s day out of spite, sweeping a small town daughter of a farmer off her feet and then they have Adventures.

And somewhere in the middle they get married a la Pirates of the Caribbean- ’BARBOSA! MARRY US!’ I’M A LITTLE BUSY AT THE MOMENT!

And then they decide that they want a child.

And then there is their Titus. Their bby boy. Who grew so fast and big and strong.

Just yes. Yes please.

Also yesssssss come join me in the Titus/Nyx/Cor pit *rubs hands together while cackling* they have so little content for such potential lol

[profile] secret_engima Regarding the Throw Me To The Wolves snippets I’ve been writing:

Sure, go ahead and use whatever you like from those ‘Just-So’ Galahdians stories I’ve been coming up with!

And, since I feel like expounding a bit more on those stories and the writing process, I’m just gonna ramble here for a minute -

The stories, as inspired by [profile] ertrunkenerwassergeist‘s fantastic Galahd head canons and further influenced by [personal profile] fialleril‘s Ekkreth stories, are very much intended to be teaching stories. Teaching stories, and semi-accurate historical accounts as preserved/passed down via oral tradition; that’s why I incorporated a pattern of repetition throughout the works themselves. There are certain phrases, certain cyclical recounts that are intended to echo real-life story traditions of repetition etc; it’s been a long, long time since I reviewed the relevant material, but I vaguely recall that the RL examples thereof were meant as tricks to help tellers memorize/accurately recall the material.

It’s also why I tend to have these stories opens and close in a relatively identical manner. The call to ‘harken and attend’, addressing the listeners as ‘Blood of the Storm, asking the audience if they will remember - that’s meant to indicate that this is a teaching/oral history story, as is the ending, where the teller once more exhorts the listeners to ‘remember’.

Furthermore, the stories themselves are - well, relatively accurate. However, they’re also subject to a certain amount of romanticism and dramatization, mainly for the sake of timing and maintaining audience interest. Vitae’s story, for instance, leaves out the majority of the details about exactly how she fought to unify the warring tribes, and the full length and breadth of the infrastructure she started the process of laying in place in order to rescue her father. Written, and relatively accurate records, of these details do exist, of course, mainly due to the letters written by Vitae to her father, and her descendants afterwards. It’s just - there’s a lot of it, and most audiences don’t really care to hear a four-hour lecture about economics and How Vitae Handled It.

And yes, Vitae’s original plan was designed to be modified by her descendants down through the centuries as they made new breakthroughs. It was intentionally designed to not be a static thing, but something to be worked on and improved over time.

(I also might have left a lot of details out in case I, or someone else, wanted to come back and work on them at a latter point in time.)

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words you’ve sent in about these! I’m really glad you enjoyed them.

None

OKAY so I saw this a few days ago and was like “whatever” but then I smashed my phone in a car door, had to clean up some dead baby bunnies in my yard, and have just generally NOT had a good week. I’m fucking spooked and I’m reblogging this twice to get the universe to stop.

I ignored this too and then i got kicked out of my house. Also reblogging twice.

I’ve already rung in the new year with 5 days of the flu, why take chances!

I haven’t ever seen them! But now that I know they exist you know what this means?

It means that Jean totally has a circle of Tonberry Knights. He names them things like Sir Berry the Great or Sir Tonberry of Misty Glades and Ardyn finds it fucking adorable.

Been…thinking bout….magic…and Lucis Caelum’s and magic….

And i have some thoughts

Thoughts for a Reveal actually

A Reveal that is literally just

look the Citadel is shrouded in magic okay, it sings and dances and twines its way around any Lucis Caelum who steps onto it’s grounds and Ace of course doesn’t know this

So he goes to like, visit Nyx in the infirmary or something and as soon as he steps into the Citadel proper it sings.

Welcomewelcomewelcomeoutprinceourlightningstormoursonourscomeandbewelcome

And Ace freezes for a moment because near the end there had been the careful prodding of unfamiliar magic prodding the space where Ace’s magic should have been in order to accept the greeting.

Ace shakes his head and follows Libs to see Nyx.

(The Citadel is Displeased that Ace has not returned her greeting. Displeased and so she guides Noct and Regis to their lost prince and trills in Ace’s ear a song of hope and love and family.

Ace’s magic reaches out to shield himself from the Citadel’s song only to brush up against Regis’ and Noctis’ magic. And Ace freezes.

Both of the other LC’s in the Citadel pick up the pace and burst into the infirmary where Nyx and Ace and Libs are.)

I can just imagine Noctis and Regis freezing and staring at one another for a long moment as they feel the Citadel sing around them, sing as it always sings in when greeting a Lucis Caelum, a scion of the House of Heavenly Light - except this time? It’s not singing to either of them. What the -

And then the Citadel is prodding them, singing in displeasure. Childrenmychildrernmyownwhywillmyownnotwelcomemeohmychildrenmysonourrsonsonoftheshadowssonofthemourningsonofthehouseofheavenlylight - and there is something like urgency, something like petulance in its ‘voice’ as it sings to them of urgency, sings them a direction, and Regis and Noctis are sprinting before they even really register it, running in the direction the Citadel leads them -

(re: this plunnie, and this followup)

O_O

Uh. Dangit, I am actually much worse about this in Star because then we have the whole “who is the host?” situation and we DO have our canon favorites but I haven’t the foggiest and my knowledge of the Witcher is literally just the one casual viewing of the show.

So the only answer I have is “Jaskier has given Mace Windu many, many, M A N Y headaches over the years. Mace dreads having those two coming in to give reports to the Council.”

“What good’s a god who gives you everything you want?”

-

Terry Pratchett, Hogfather

Relevant to something I saw [personal profile] systlin talking about the other day. Our Gods do not hand us the world on a plate, but rather, They teach us how to create ourselves within this world, and, if we are very lucky, how to shape our world around us.

gay-jesus-probably:

…So I’m rewatching FMA:B, and I totally just realized: for the first Scar fight, Mustang wasn’t actually being a fucking idiot. The man’s a veteran combat alchemist with PTSD up to his ears; no way he’d just forget that rain shuts down his brand of alchemy. He even showed up to that fight with a firearm drawn, because he was prepared to not be using his alchemy. So why the hell would he put the gun down and try to fight a serial killer with alchemy that he should have known he couldn’t use?

Because Mustang wasn’t trying to fight Scar.

Ed being saved at the last second is excellent dramatic tension, but ignore the storytelling stuff and look at the scene from a tactical perspective. Scar can destroy/kill anything he touches. His hand is literally inches away from Ed’s face, and Ed can’t even get to his feet, let alone defend himself. Scar’s really fucking fast, and the backup is standing a good twenty feet back. Which is why everyone stands there and lets him have a little monologue, because this isn’t a showdown with a serial killer; it’s a hostage situation. If Scar went for the kill, they wouldn’t be able to stop him. They’re not going to talk him down, Ed’s not going to escape, so the immediate priority is to make Scar move away. Ideally without alerting him to the fact that he’s got a hostage at his feet.

So Mustang hands Hawkeye his weapon and steps up as a shiny distraction, trying to get Scar to walk away from the helpless Fullmetal Alchemist and come fuck up the Flame Alchemist instead. Note that Hawkeye doesn’t move until Scar’s begun walking forwards; she’s not going to make any sudden moves while the serial killers got a victim in arms reach. But one Ed’s out of immediate danger, she’s charging in to cover Mustang, and shots get fired.

Also notice how Ed doesn’t react to the situation until Havoc’s helping Ed sit up? Yeah, that also seems… purposeful. When Scar’s giving his short monologue, he’s literally standing over Ed. Of course Ed’s going to be silent and stay perfectly still - if he draws Scar’s attention, then he’ll be killed or used as a hostage. So he just keeps laying there while Scar’s standing over him, and doesn’t try to wiggle away or say anything, because it would be a very bad time to be noticed.

Basically it’s a good thing that Scar isn’t the type to use human shields, because if he was I really doubt Ed would have made it out of that episode alive.
