sparklecryptid quick quick look at this!
Holy bleep this is so good. It’s very, very fun to read; Nemo is. Absolutely, 100% believable.
And heartbreaking. Oh, that poor boy - raised to be a tool by an unloving Sire (never father, never father in more then blood, not really), to be used as such by the brother who never even knew he existed. Only for said plot to be foiled by the fact that said brother is. Well. A good person. Who would have loved Nemo, would have trusted him and cared for him and Mors’ couldn’t have that.
Oh, Nemo. Cast aside, and stumbling - accidentally - into bees and flowers and hunters and happiness. And I love how - his emotional recovery isn’t sudden. It’s slow and painful, but it’s happening. He’ll never - never be quite free of his past, but he’s come to terms with it. It isn’t defining him. And - his family. Oh, his family - the story about how he met his wife is gold, and the one about his daughter, his daughter, is. Profound. About how his daughter is - a catalyst, almost. For him to finally let go of his biological parents, for him to - find some kind of peace.
And. Just. How. Nemo is. Cautious of Regis. Of a Son of Mors, and all it entails. Heir to their mutual father’s legacy, the man Nemo was raised to serve - he’s. Wary, for all that he sympathizes with Regis, somewhat (and that talk about the bite of the Ring makes me wonder if Mors ever forced Miles to be a back-up generator for the Wall) and he literally sent his daughter away when he thought that Regis might stop by.
Just.
Well.
Nemo is not going to react well if and when Regis ever tries to make contact.
And Regis probably is going to try and make contact. Because this is his brother, and Regis is, as you’ve previously stated, a kind man who values family. More then that, he looks at the files, looks at how Miles No Last Name Given was literally raised to be a soldier, a weapon, raised to serve him, and feels. Pity and empathy and nausea. And recognition, because this is. This is Cor, only a thousand times worse, because Mors did this to his own son. His own flesh and blood.
Regis. Well. This is probably set before the split with Cid and Wesk, so Regis probably gets his retinue, his friends, about him and has a very cathartic spazz-out break-down as he shares the files with them.
And then tries to figure out how to find his brother, because Mors literally kicked Miles out and didn’t keep track of him. Miles is loose in the wind; they don’t even know if he’s alive - they probably track down Nemo’s Uncle, and ask questions, but -
Either way.
Either way, Nemo is going to be more frightened than he’s ever been in his entire life when Regis - or a representative thereof - makes contact.
(And he can’t even tell his wife why he’s shoving their daughter in her arms and telling her to go run run now get out of here I’ll contact you late if it’s safe now RUN - )
