It is wrong of me to picture Cor wearing this necklace and ROCKING IT?

Absolutely not because now I’m picturing the exact same thing and it’s lovely!

(now please picture Ardyn seeing him in this necklace and having a Moment)

Ardyn wants to kiss up that line of rubies.

For those who dont get the joke, Islam does not allow for physical representation of the prophet Mohammed. This includes statues.

:D

Anyway! Some thoughts include:

-ardyn really likes putting cor in pretty things. His reasoning is that cor is pretty and his and so deserves pretty things

-ardyn doesn’t need to sleep but he still likes wrapping himself around cor when cor is asleep and just listening to cors heartbeat. A reminder that cor is alive.

-ardyn knows that cor can take care of himself and doesn’t worry too much. That being said if something happened to cor Ardyn is very willing to set the world on fire

-(Ardyn looks at Cor and could swear that Cor is the only thing stopping Ardyn from burning Insomnia down)

-if Ardyn were a better man he would warn Cor off. I’m a monster, he would tell Cor. But Ardyn isn’t a better man and Cor chose to stay anyway.

-cor: this is my depressed immortal if you want to get to him you have to go through me

Honestly? I should write more about Jean

[personal profile] sparklecryptid

Actually, I have a question. Do you see Jean and Ardyn as primarily illusionists or at least partial shapeshifters? Canonically, we know that Ardyn is a peerless illusionist, but his adaption of the ‘scourge-face’ and the fact that he is the nucleus of the Scourge, so to speak, indicates a real, physical change in his bodily makeup that he is capable of expression or hiding at will - which might be indicative of some kind of shapeshifting.

I mean. As long as he’s an illusionist, he can look like whatever the hell he wants to look like; it doesn’t matter if he’s a shapeshifter, but -

I suppose what I’m really wondering is if Jean can make cosmetic changes that mean he can grow claws.

…probably not.

…although I now have the mental image that Jean and Ardyn’s proprioception - the sense that tells you where your body parts are, and how they’re positioned in space (it’s basically the sense that lets you touch your fingers to the tip of your nose with closed eyes) - might be subtley off due to the Scourge - they might fell like they’re supposed to have - claws, and sharper teeth, and other inhuman characteristics, and they  don’t.

I think that their proprioception definitely does that. They totally think that they should have claws or fangs or some other not human appendages but they don’t. And it’s frustrating on the days where it’s really bad because the keep expecting something to be there but there isn’t.

And I think that they kinda….have mild shapeshifting abilities? Like. They can turn their scourge appearance on and off they might be able to make their nails turn to claws or their teeth to fangs but HM. I don’t know. I think it’s a neat idea but I also think that ability would be lost if the scourge left them.

So. Mild shapeshifting I can see but not full ‘shit that’s a daemon’ shapeshifting.

Also there is totally gonna be a part where Ardyn teaches Jean to use illusions that is a thing

[personal profile] sparklecryptid

Jean, upon learning How To Illusion: COWER BEFORE ME, BREIF MORTALS! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ardyn: I’m so proud.

Look, if you give Jean the ability to make All The Illusions, Jean is damn well going to use it. In ways that - might be somewhat traumatizing to non-Ardyn individuals. (Usually, he plays up the ham to make Ardyn smile.)

And oooh, what if their inhuman-characteristics proprioception isn’t static? It tends to change over time; they wake up feeling like they should have inhuman characteristics completely different from the ones they ‘experienced’ the day before…

chotomy:

im glad diogenes is getting the attention he deserves on this webbed site but let’s not forget another iconic ancient recluse: Ruan Ji, poet and musician, one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove, and inventor of the phrase “be gay, do crimes”

the poem was taken from this book of Ruan Ji and Ji Kang’s poetry, which is lovely and much more melancholy than you’d expect from someone of his… Dionysian lifestyle ;) go check it out!

All the Sages of the Bamboo Grove were crazy, but Ruan Ji and Ji Kang stand head and shoulders above the rest. They were the rock stars of their day…alongside being respected theologians, philosophers, critics and connoisseurs in all things artistic, and mad bohemians. It was a product of their chaotic times, where the constant threat of death led to an identity crisis for many upper class people.

One of the stories surrounding Ji Kang has him matching wits with Zhong Hui, one of the generals who later conquered the Shu Kingdom for the Sima family. Zhong Hui, the son of the calligrapher Zhong Yao. was a huge fan of Ji Kang. He once wrote a thesis on morality and ability (a popular discussion topic among the intellectuals of the time) and wanted a critique from Ji Kang, but chickened out once he reached Ji Kang’s house. Instead, he tossed the book into Ji Kang’s yard and left without even notifying the residents of his arrival. Later, he paid a more formal visit to Ji Kang, taking with him attendants bearing various gifts. He found Ji Kang at his forge, and another of the Seven Sages assisting him at the bellows. Ji Kang did not even acknowledge his visitors, and Zhong Hui eventually decided to leave. Ji Kang then asked “What have you heard that makes you come? What have you heard that makes you go?” Zhong Hui, himself quite witty, replied “I came because I heard what I have heard, and I go because I saw what I have seen.”

By the way, competitive whistling really was a popular pastime in Three Kingdoms/Jin Dynasty period.

The story of Shan Tao’s wife peeping on Ji Kang and Ruan Ji ends with her telling her husband: “You can match them in neither wit nor appearance; you were only able to befriend them with your wisdom and elegant demeanor.” And Shan Tao, being a good sport, replied that “They have indeed all complimented my elegance.”

Like literally the most famous song about how much girls love jewellry is just explaining the importance of getting jewellry for when your partner leaves you penniless and alone.

The founder of Girl Scouting in the US, Juliette Gordon Low, funded her first troop by selling her pearl necklace, which was her only belonging after her husband died and left everything to his mistress.

She founded Girl Scouts to teach girls self-sufficiency so they wouldn’t have to go through what she went through when her husband died and she didn’t know how to take care of herself.
