Honestly? I should write more about Jean
sparklecryptidActually, I have a question. Do you see Jean and Ardyn as primarily illusionists or at least partial shapeshifters? Canonically, we know that Ardyn is a peerless illusionist, but his adaption of the ‘scourge-face’ and the fact that he is the nucleus of the Scourge, so to speak, indicates a real, physical change in his bodily makeup that he is capable of expression or hiding at will - which might be indicative of some kind of shapeshifting.
I mean. As long as he’s an illusionist, he can look like whatever the hell he wants to look like; it doesn’t matter if he’s a shapeshifter, but -
I suppose what I’m really wondering is if Jean can make cosmetic changes that mean he can grow claws.
…probably not.
…although I now have the mental image that Jean and Ardyn’s proprioception - the sense that tells you where your body parts are, and how they’re positioned in space (it’s basically the sense that lets you touch your fingers to the tip of your nose with closed eyes) - might be subtley off due to the Scourge - they might fell like they’re supposed to have - claws, and sharper teeth, and other inhuman characteristics, and they don’t.
I think that their proprioception definitely does that. They totally think that they should have claws or fangs or some other not human appendages but they don’t. And it’s frustrating on the days where it’s really bad because the keep expecting something to be there but there isn’t.
And I think that they kinda….have mild shapeshifting abilities? Like. They can turn their scourge appearance on and off they might be able to make their nails turn to claws or their teeth to fangs but HM. I don’t know. I think it’s a neat idea but I also think that ability would be lost if the scourge left them.
So. Mild shapeshifting I can see but not full ‘shit that’s a daemon’ shapeshifting.
Also there is totally gonna be a part where Ardyn teaches Jean to use illusions that is a thing
sparklecryptidJean, upon learning How To Illusion: COWER BEFORE ME, BREIF MORTALS! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Ardyn: I’m so proud.
Look, if you give Jean the ability to make All The Illusions, Jean is damn well going to use it. In ways that - might be somewhat traumatizing to non-Ardyn individuals. (Usually, he plays up the ham to make Ardyn smile.)
And oooh, what if their inhuman-characteristics proprioception isn’t static? It tends to change over time; they wake up feeling like they should have inhuman characteristics completely different from the ones they ‘experienced’ the day before…
