One thing I unironically love about the recently expanded Good Omens fandom is the increased attention on Crowley and Azirphale’s relationship with Warlock.
A great deal of the fandom focuses on Adam and his relationship with his celestial ‘godparents’. And that’s great! There’s some gorgeous work out there about the interactions between the three of them.
But I’d sometimes think about the Serpent of Eden, the Watcher of the Eastern Gate, and how they spent literal years pretty much raises this other kid. This too-human kid, singing him lullabies about crushing the nations of the earth beneath his feet and teaching him reverence and respect for all other beings. And I’d think: regardless of whether or not he was the antichrist, he was their charge. Didn’t that mean - something?
Did they just. Forget him? Post-Event, there’s really not that much mention/consideration of a kid who was the focus of their entire world, more or less, for years upon years. Did they deliberately focus on seeing him as the job and not as a child, as their charge?
(And I get how Warlock was kind of glossed over, I mean, the world was literally ending in the book and all the characters had to focus on the Apocalypse-That-Wasn’t and everything, but still - )
What I’m trying to say is. It’s really, really great to see other people considering, and engaging with, Warlock. And writing - fics and meta about Crowley and Aziraphale and Warlock. It’s. Really really nice to see.
