Fuck okay I hated Ardyn and every time he appeared I was like nope asshole bye but he was such a good villain. Like he got what he wanted in the end. He won. His death, which he also wanted after hundreds, if not thousands of years, wiped the Lucis Caelum line from the face of the planet and mostly the heavens beyond, which was always his carefully orchestrated endgame. Everything he did was to point Noctis to becoming the king of kings, to charging the ring, to doing what he couldn’t so Noctis could end it all, and Ardyn was willing to pay the price of it because it meant he won all around.
He didn’t care about the daemons taking over, only Ifrit did. And Ifrit needed Ardyn to pull darkness over the world, and to do it he needed Ardyn alive, which was why he went to Insomnia to fight Noctis.
What a villainous icon? He was so powerful, he could have done anything, even the friendly five of the Six couldn’t kill him, but his revenge was so calculated and constructed that it saved the world as it ended it. He didn’t care about other people dying, he cared about ruining the bloodline that, it’s assumed, he came from, the blood that betrayed him. He permanently completed his goal. What a dick. What a masterpiece of a dick.
