I had this…idea….the idea is that jean is covering the insomnian red carpet with dino or someone. the king is there, the prince is there, prompto is there as noctis’ plus one, all the nobles and people are there.

and jean is there with his camera snapping shots of the outfits. and its normal.

and then a barrier separates him from his reporter buddies. and gilgamesh appears. jean dodges just in time to avoid being sliced in half.

his camera isn’t so lucky.

the area has gone chaotic, people are being evacuated, the glaive and crownsguard are surrounding the barrier and cor is in front of the king and clarus because cor-

cor recognizes the blademaster. but gilgamesh isn’t paying attention to cor, instead the blademasters attention is solely on what seems to be a very pissed off reporter.

“Once upon a time, there were two brothers, and the older was a king.” Jean’s voice is flat and to the point.

In other circumstances, this tale would be - significantly different. Oh, the content would be the same, but he’d spin a more elaborate story, full of teasing details and taunting truths. But right now? Jean is pissed off.

He’s angry. At Gilgamesh, at this whole bloody evening, at the way it’s taking everything he can muster to stand without crumbling into a tiny heap and screaming at the pain racking through each muscle and joint. He’s infuriated at the way Regis and the whole bloody High Council of Lucis are staring at him.

(He can’t look at the Glaive contingent. He can’t bear to see Nyx’s face.)

“The older brother was the First King of Lucis, and Gilgamesh Amicitia was his sworn Shield. Except when the First King’s younger brother launched a coup and stole his crown, the Blademaster sided with the usurper who erased his brother’s name from the history books and took the credit for everything he’d ever done.”

Jean felt his face twist in a sneer. “But a Shield lives as long as his king does, and when the First King was cursed with immortality by the Astrals because he actually tried to find another option then suicide, the sword-ghost was trapped on Eos. May his spirit stay under the Crag and trouble us not.” The last few words are a hiss as the purple-haired man glared at the sky.

“Two thousand years, and I wonder if he’s ever even considered that he might have done the wrong thing when he betrayed his friend. Father deserved better.”
