Huh. I have the sudden mental image of Nyx’s crown just. Showing up on his head during the middle of a shift; perhaps Ramuh has gotten *impatient* with the Lucian’s xenophobic attitude towards immigrants?

@hamelin-born

Okay, can I just say that I love this idea and it is amazing.

Because Ramuh loves his people – loves them in a way that most of the other Astrals can’t even contemplate – he loves them and he cares for them and he watches over them, always. Ramuh watches over his people, he protects them however he can – from the storms that once raged around Galahd, acting as a barrier against invasion, to appearing in his peoples dreams to granting gifts and showing paths – and as he watches over his people in Lucis, watches over the country that his people had fled to when they had nowhere else, he sees everything.

And eventually, he can no longer bear it. He can no longer bear to leave his people to suffer in silence, can no longer stand back and allow his Galahdians to be beaten down and discriminated against for being who they were, can no longer watch from above as his children become more and more oppressed. So, Ramuh does the only thing that he can do.

(Because Lucis belongs to Bahamut, Insomnia is the seat of his power, and Ramuh has no control over anything there and he cannot fight the Draconian, he isn’t strong enough to do so even when his people need him – but, as he looks upon how his children are treated, oh, how he wants to)

Ramuh reaches out to the man who is his avatar in the mortal world (‘mortal’, not ‘human’ because all of those of Galahd have traces of non-human blood but Nyx is his father’s son and could never be called human), he reaches for his connection with his Chosen and flexes his power and makes everyone see Nyx for what he is – Nyx who is his Chosen and his peoples leader, who would fight until the last for Galahd.

And Nyx, who is either on shift in the middle of the Citadel or in the middle of a battle (you pick, but I sorta like the idea of it being the middle of a battle/training so that Drautos is the one questioning Nyx about wtf), feels cold metal settle into place on his brow.

The weight of his crown – of the Solheim gold twisted with obsidian and interlaced with fulgurite – is as familiar as it is odd, and the land beneath his feet sings at its Prince (at Nyx wearing his crown and proclaiming himself a Prince, a royal, to all those that can see him).

Half the glaive is having a wtaf moment, the other – Galahdian – half is looking at Nyx with pride because this is their Chosen, the Lucians are even more confused than the glaive and also a little angry because why is an immigrant wearing a crown?, and Regis et al have been summoned and are a little lost but they look at Nyx and see the Prince in his bearing.

Meanwhile, Nyx has figured out that he can’t actually take the crown off and is a bit busy cursing up at the sky because damn it, old man, seriously?

(Lib has already taken pictures and sent them to his father, Ardyn is terrifying half of Niflheim by cackling randomly because this is hilarious but he is also so proud of his son who looks like a proper Prince in his crown that Ardyn had made for him)

@charlottedabookworm

lol perfect. And - ahaha, I just love the mental image of Nyx tugging frantically at his crown and literally unable to take it off, Nyx cursing in a long scrawl of swears that starts out in Lucian, transitions to Galadh, and then descends into a teasingly familiar (if indecipherable) language that a historian would be able to recognize as Old Sol.

And yes. Libertus has photos of everything. Of Nyx looking very prince-like and regal. Of Nyx tugging frantically at his crown. Of Nyx rolling on the ground like a coeurl kitten, still trying to take off the crown. Of Nyx shaking a fist at the sky as he curses out the Old Man, and the decidedly amused-looking thundercloud nearby (can a cloud look amused? Yes. Yes it can, if Ramuh wants it too. Ardyn loves the photos, and would send them out in all his Christmas cards if 1) Eos had an equivalent of Christmas and 2) If he had anyone to send said cards to.

Nyx would probably claim utter and total ignorance to Regis’ face. (’I have no idea why I’m wearing this crown! Lib, stop laughing!’) Which is - strictly speaking, the truth. He doesn’t know why Ramuh chose to put said crown on his brow - but he has a guess.

…I now have the sudden mental image of Nyx declaring he has no idea why he’s wearing a crown, he doesn’t know what is going on is met with a sudden rumble of thunder, the brief glare of a lightning bolt, and a very unamused-looking Nyx suddenly wearing the flowing black-enbroidered-with-gold robes of Old Sol Royalty, chased with bright electric blue. Nyx: SERIOUSLY?!

Nyx knows when he’s being given a message and shuts his mouth for fear that Ramuh will take away his boots next. (Nyx: Old man, I fucking loved that jacket, please tell me you didn’t disintegrate it.) Libertus, of all people, might just take pity on him and spill the beans - “Nyx, you’re a prince. Are you trying to tell me you’ve never worn shit like this before?” “Libertus!” “What?” “First, my family hasn’t had a throne in over two thousand years, and second, why the hell did you say that in front of fucking everyone?” “Look, the Old Man’s pretty much spilled the beans already. Did you want to have your blades taken away and be replaced by a ceremonial sword next?”

Good luck trying to take off the Crown, Nyx, Regis et al. I have the sneaking suspicion that it will only come off when 1) Ramuh lets it or 2) Ardyn does it.
