For @elenothar, who requested ‘Graves and a [redacted for story purposes]’. Which, to be perfectly honest, stewed in my brain for a few days as I tried to link the two together - only to be inspired when I accidentally stumbled into the ‘His Dark Materials’ section of AO3.
Author’s Notes: Officially Not Mine. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is Not Mine. His Dark Materials is Not Mine. This is also a fusion between His Dark Materials and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them - namely, the concept of dæmons. Might be a bit OOC, but - well, it was written in something of a hurry, rather late at night.

They found Percival Graves in the cellar.
Seraphina is quite sure that Grindelwald’s choice of the aforementioned location was no accident. The man was meticulous to the extreme - look. He was saying - not to her, but to the man he had captured. Captured and held in his own home, what should have been Percival’s seat of power - it was insult piled on insult, deliberately designed to further denigrate his victim.

I’m actually crying right now. Oh my gosh this is just incredibly beautiful. Just too powerful and heart-wrenching at the same time.
The phoenix rising and Percival Graves opening his eyes — symbolic on how much Percival Graves will rise again after he had been brought down to his knees by Grindelwald.
Thank you! I just - the original prompt was ‘Percival Graves and a phoenix’, and I just really, really wanted to write about a man who had a phoenix for a soul. Who burns and crumbles and drags himself back up again, teeth bared in defiance. He’s not the same. He will never be the same again - he was broken, but that does not mean he has to remain so.
He makes a choice to heal.
…he also has to put up with a number of specialists writing him every damn hour of the day because this is unprecedented, this is amazing, this is history in the making!
I already left a totally overwhelmed comment on AO3, but I’m definitely up for gushing again because this was absolutely brilliant and I immediately had to read it twice just because… man. The feelings. Such an unexpected use of the phoenix, but I absolutely adore it, and all the things it implies about Percival’s character. And Newt’s fascination! Perfect.

… Out of curiousity, what were you doing in the His Dark Materials tag?
Glad to see that you liked it! I rather doubt that I’ll come back to this ‘verse ever again, but I find myself thinking about - all the ways it could go from here. (Gramander, if I know myself - that’s my OTP for FBAWTFT.) Just - I get the impression that daemons do NOT usually Settle as Seriously Magical Creatures like dragons and firebirds, so it’s kind of a Big Deal - also, there’s the fact that Percival’s acquired said shape after it re-Settled. …which is extremely rare in its own right.
How would Percival adjust to this? To the stark, undeniable proof that he is different, that he is no longer quite the person he used to be? How would he adjust to Dindrane’s altered diet, her newfound tendency to sing, her habit of bursting into flames every so often? (Also, her newfound tendency to participate in duels - she can take so much damage now, including the Killing Curse - she’ll just regenerate from it.)
Oh, you know how it goes - I was idly browsing through someone’s bookmarks over on AO3, there was a HDM fusion there, I followed it back to the HDM tag to see if anyone had posted anything new and interesting recently - and the idea hit me.
