I kinda want my genderfluid Ardyn to get knocked up by an Astral next…no, bad brain.
@theperidotshade
Doooo ittttttttt!
It sounds awesome and it would just be amazing. :D
Also, suffer with me!
I’m also really tempted for it to have been hatesex with Bahamut, but that is probably a bit too far out of my comfort zone for writing because Bahamut would still play a role in the plot and I’m not sure I can do that dynamic justice.
So it’d probably be Ramuh, or Ifrit…wait, there’s nothing stopping me from making biological sex one of the things Astrals Don’t Get about humans. It could be any of them. *cackles*
But I think it’s gonna depend on when in the timeline I place it. ‘Cause now I kinda want Aulea to be Ardyn’s daughter by an Astral (I’m thinking Leviathan, because I like the idea of paralleling Aulea with Finduilas of Dol Amroth, and the sea imagery is strong with that one. Plus—Aulea being Leviathan’s kid), because the idea of Ardyn as Noct’s grandfather and Regis’ father-in-law is hilarious.
Or I could go with it being Bahamut way back in Ardyn’s pre-Scourge days and have his great-great-grandkid marry into Somnus’ line so technically the LCs are descended from both brothers and their Astral patron.
And I just got @hamelin-born‘s ask about it being an offshoot of the Cor LC ‘verse, which would make Cor’s other parent an Astral, which I’m also really tempted to do, especially if I make that Astral someone completely out of left field. I want to say Titan just for sheer similarity to adult Cor, but idk how that’d work with him stuck under a meteor, so I…think maybe it’d be Leviathan or Ramuh.
Ugh, too many options, I can’t decide.
@theperidotshade
Oooh, but why not a mix of both?
Because I really love the Cor LC headcanon, but I also absolutely 100% adore the Ardyn-is-Aulea’s father idea. (I actually think I saw a fic that featured that same premise, once - it was basically a one-shot over on AO3, have no idea how to find it, sorry!) Have Cor and Aulea as twins, the twin children of the Leviathan, the Queen of the Salt-Strewn Abyss, and of Ardyn Lucis Caelum, King of Light.
And then fucking pour in the angst.
Aulea and Cor get separated from their parent, somehow. Get separated from one another; Cor - goes the route of Cor in canon/Cor LC headcanon, and suffers before entering the Guard and clawing his way up the ranks to find fulfillment and purpose with Regis et al. And Aulea - Aulea gets adopted by some upper-class Lucians, runs into Regis, falls in love with Regis, marries Regis - and it’s only when she meets his friends for the first time that she runs into Cor. Cor who - reminds her of someone. She can’t quite remember. And Cor stares at her with a crinkled forehead because - she’s like - he can’t quite remember, and then the magic is rising and they’re reasonating with one another and what the fuck?
Also headcanon: Cor is his sister’s Shield. Because why not?
(They remember their parent. But only vaguely; only the distant, trauma-faded remembrances of children. They want their parent. They really do.)
And somehow this turns into a whole multi-generational quest to find Ardyn, who is delighted to be reunited with his children, and somewhere down the line Ardyn laughs until he cries at learning that the Chosen King is his grandson. Seriously, what the fuck, Bahamut?
(Regis, for one, is delighted to discover that one of his best friends is actually his brother-in-law. Cor is literally family, yes! And he desperately wants to make a good impression with his father-in-law, who is - really not impressed by the whole King of Lucis thing. It would be refreshing, if it wasn’t so terrifying.)
