I’m re-reading the Coldfire trilogy for the umpteenth time at the moment, and really, you can tell a lot about a person based on whether they prefer Damien (giant cuddly loyal teddybearman who can kill demonic things one-handed and is adorable with children. And also sacrifices everything he valued about himself to walk into hell to save a man he originally started out hating) and Gerald (who is commonly acknowledged as the world’s embodiment of evil and committed matricide and infanticide as well as mass-murder over the course of centuries and is generally a facetious, sarcastic arse)
That’s not to say they don’t work well together, because together they are great, but srsly, if you were going to spend time with any one of them, would it be the one who is genuinely likely to kill you?
I still see Ray Stevenson as my Damien. He’d have to bulk up a bit, but that’s how I see him.
