Hmm, that could be it. Or something I imagined is that since the Obscurus is the child’s magic taken a separate form, I thought of Newt being able to reintegrate it into her. (There’s a theory going around that if you separate a Obscurus from the Obscurial, you kill the host). But maybe there is still something strange and special about Kamala’s magic. It still lashes out to protect her, but only to protect. There is no hurting others when it takes form. And it’s this pure white light (as opposed to the dark black smoke that the Obscurus takes). Newt would probably want to keep that as in the dark as possible, especially with the interest that “Graves” is showing in Kamala….
Now I’m imagining Theseus coming storming in like thunder and lighting and brimstone into MACUSA before Grindelgraves can sentence Newt and Tina to death and everyone being like “….We hecked up. We hecked up BIG TIME.”
