1500 bucks buys me a *lathe*.

Not a big one, but big enough to learn on!

nyxserpent:

Get myself a full set of interchangeable knitting needles and circular cords

After that…honestly the rest will be spent on yarn and possibly crochet hooks I do not have

Unless I decide to try cross stitch again. Then there will be supplies for that

Nooo, I’m not planning on raiding an entire corner of the local Michael’s, why do you ask?

aniseandspearmint:

Ooooh, hmmmm. Okay, this is slightly depressing, but I don’t actually have any hobbies right now. I have several things I haven’t touched in years that I would like to pick back up though, sooooo….

A nice 2nd hand art and writing desk, 2nd hand because 1500 is nowhere near enough to buy a nice one new, but I’ve seen ‘em at the 2nd hand stores for under 100.

ALL the sharpies, and some NICE pens and pencils for writing. A bunch of notebooks, not too nice otherwise I feel bad for using them (brain why are you like this?). A ton of sketch books and bristol board pads.

White spray paint. and some tables/chairs/shelves I can strip, prime and then draw all over.

morgynleri-mirrors:

That would buy so much thread and bins to hold all the thread. I could actually have a cone of every color of cotton. Possibly two cones! And then I could do ALL THE THINGS! (So much crochet and cord braiding. I could have boob slings for every outfit. And more blankets. And all the cords.)

(I’d say a new computer, but a new computer would cost more than that, at least one with all of what I want. So I’ll stick with the hobby I could actually feed with $1500… *goes to look anyway* Actually. No, 1500 would get me most of the way to the computer I have in mind. Which. It would give me another decade of not worrying about my computer crapping out on me, and the room to make more patterns and writing and world building and art and just. All. The. Things.)

As for how getting all the thread would help me progress - do you know how many patterns I have in mind that I don’t have materials for? And can’t afford to buy the materials for? So. Many. Pretty. Things.

star-anise:

The lightest possible two-wheeled handcart

With a prop for the handles. I can walk pretty well, but not stand easily, so I’ll put a comfortable seat in the back with lots of cushions, maybe even a canopy overhead, and use it for outdoor SCA events.

If I can swing a second thing by using free family labour, then a folding chair:

And a footstool, to do the same thing, for indoor events.

mihrsuri:

Put it towards an iPad Pro for doing digitail art or some art books (how to water colour, how to draw people) and some really nice water colour paper and brush pens.

lemonsharks:

Four kolinsky sable paint brushes and a hella nice roll of watercolor paper.

If I use a coupon I may even have enough left over for a budget paper cutter!

taraljc:

my problem is I would buy like maybe 3 of the dolls I’m missing that were destroyed in 2018 and 5 minutes later I’d have $7 in the bank and wouldn’t have progressed so much as only partially caught up to where I used to be….

dollsorwhatever:

Aw this is a cute little prompt!

Uhh let’s see (this is literally my entire list of things I need for my unfinished doll room lol)

-all of the storage supplies I still need (one more 5-drawer set for doll storage, two more Akro Mils 24-drawer sets for clothes and a smaller one with wider drawers for hair and BJD supplies), a perfectly-sized glass panel to sit on top of the 5-drawer sets for display space

-Larger desk to put all of the Akro Mils sets on, but with enough space in the front for working on doll stuff, another laptop stand for the doll room so I can spend the day in there without hauling my laptop stand across the hall lol

-An extra flat iron specifically for doll use, a silicone heat-safe pad to sit the flat iron on when I’m styling and a small grey rug to go directly under the desk to protect the carpet when I’m cutting hair

-one of those extortionately expensive weighted doll head spikes to cut hair with more precision

-black metal cup rack to hang doll wigs and Blythe scalps so they don’t get squished when I’m not using them

-two more floor lamps and a desk lamp (potentially some fairy lights to go all over one of the blank walls or maybe the ceiling? I don’t have overhead lights in this house lol)

-Absolutely every single Sailor Moon print from Sugarmint for the walls, assorted other prints and artwork to switch out depending on what collection I’m displaying at the moment

-TONS of tiny tiny fairylights to attach around the borders of my display and a set of Ikea LED light strips to go across the back

All of these would increase the organization and aesthetics of my doll room, thus making me want to actually spend time in there lol

Uhh I’m gonna need more than 1500$ lektbgkheb

oak23:

For me it’d be stuff like

Indoor spray booth

Airbrush

3d printer

Rooting hair machine

Mini vacuum

You’re given $1500, but it must be used toward your hobby. What do you buy, and how does it help you progress?

I’d rather answer here cause I don’t know anyone on Reddit, but this is a fun daydream prompt.

“You’re given $1500, but it must be used toward your hobby. What do you buy, and how does it help you progress?”

Zbrush classes & software - Yep this is my next big step, progress obvious here

Sets of multiple fine brushes - If I stop using my old splayed out liner maybe I wouldn’t get so frustrated with faceups and practice more. I got a couple small ones to try last month but they aren’t good quality and already poofed out.

More PanPastel colors, more PearlEx colors - The funner faceups are, the more likely I would be to do it?

Hot glue gun - Necessary.

New fabric scissors - Faster and less frustrating.

The rest of the dolls stands - I’m more inspired to work when my area looks spiffy.

Just for additional fun I’ll note here some things I already have that drastically improved my hobby experience. I sincerely recommend these if you hobby similarly to me:

Sewing machine

Airbrush

Mini iron

Clay, assorted ceramic tools, glazes, and reliable access to a kilm.
