tht was not my first thought but y e s
merge the two au’s- things go pretty much the same on Art’s half: mum has a kid with Iedolas, sees the way that the Emperor looks at her son, goes fuck that waltzs out of the imperial palace and fucks off to Insomnia to become the Eos equivalent of Claudia Auditore
but with Catia things change, she isn’t Noct’s full sibling so she isn’t Aulea’s but she’s around the same age give or take a few weeks because Aulea was pregnant but didn’t know it when she and Regis decided to have some fun
so then, a few years after taking over Insomnia’s brothels, Art and Catia’s mum meets this lovely couple on the town, happens to spend a few nights with them, and then realises afterward exactly who it is she slept with. Catia is born 8 months later and their mum (who needs a name) shrugs and says nothing except to her children because Iedolas seemed a perfectly nice man at first as well
Catia and Art are raised together, Art is a total older brother and I’m not saying that he takes over Insomnia’s underworld just in case his sisters bio dad ends up being like her previous bio dad but I’m also not saying that
his info network is the absolute best though
Art is closer to Luna’s age and Catia and he are so close, seem to have this unspeakable bond that everyone writes off as them being siblings, but Art teaches her to weild the fucking sword that won’t stop following him
they find out Catia has magic and they try to sort that out as best as they can together because tehy aren’t really surprised - magic was even more prominent in their previous life
Catia loves the freedom of being a mage
Art maybe regrets the bedtime stories he used to tell her when she starts sending snakes after him when he annoys her
and then eventually Regis finds out that he has a daughter and Art just
flips right from passive surveillance to active, bristling, sarcastic bodyguard who glares at Regis constantly and scrutinises his every action
and Catia knows that if either one of them find Regis to be anything like Vortigern, her brother will kill him for her. or, if she likes, he’ll hold him down for her
she has the best brother

Y’know, I meant to reply to this ages ago but I’m only getting around to it now. What is life?
But yes. Yes to all of it! Yes to mama!Art prioritizing her son over the comfort and security that being Iedolas’s Acknowledged Consort and Mother of the Heir could give her. Yes to her taking her baby and fleeing, yes to her becoming a kickass independent individual in her own right, and yes to your comparison of her to Claudia Auditore!
…I like to think that if she’s still alive, she’s ferociously proud of her children, and if she’s dead, she died after seeing Art’s rise to power as unchallenged overlord of the underworld, and she died ferociously proud of her children.
*giggles* I love your take on how Regis+Aulea+mom!Art met! Just - out on the town, uncomplicated fun, all of them, together - it’s marvelous, and such a nice inversion of the way a ‘usual’ bastard royalty AU goes. Having Aulea be present, and fully on board with this - lovely.
Art, as mama!Art puts his new sister in his arms: I would die for you, tiny sibling.
Art’s protectiveness of Catia - his Catia, his cousin/little sister, who grows up with a gap-toothed grin and who positively runs through the local park, shrieking in joy - who can be both a Perfect Pink Princess (she likes pretty things!) but who takes an almost indecent glee in being able to chose to be or not to be a Princess if she wants to - kicks up into overdrive when he learns that Catia remembers her last life, much as he does.
…furthermore, in the movie, I’m pretty sure that Art never knows exactly what happened to Catia. He finds out here.
And promptly hits the roof.
Catia loves being a mage. She especially loves how, if she’s careful, and if she’s kind, she can coax birds to stand on her arm and feed them treats. (The birds love her. If Catia wanted it, she could have the most devoted spy ring in Lucis at her beck and call - as it is, most of the time, all she ever asks the birds for is, politely, if she can fly with them sometimes, catching a ride behind their eyes.)
And just - down the line, after Catia is Discovered, and Regis et al have put up with Art standing behind his sister and glaring at Regis every time the two of them are in the same room together - I just. Have the mental image of someone, maybe Noctis, innocently/exasperatedly asking Art just why he’s so hostile to Regis.
And Art just. Smiles.
“There was someone Catia called Dad once.” Art begins, almost pleasantly, and only an innocent would mistake the smile on his face for one of good humor. “Who put bread on the table, who loved her like a daughter, who celebrated her birthdays and gave her presents. Who adored her as his heir. Who loved her, and she loved him.”
“She liked him. She loved his as a father, and she trusted him.”
“And then he stuck a dagger through her chest and he threw her into a lake full of nagas”
“He thought sacrificing his daughter would give him power.” Art continues, almost pleasantly, accent roughening as everyone stares at him in outright horror. “Because he loved her.” Art shrugs. “He just wanted power more.”
“If this new dad of Catia’s as much of a bastard as her old one, well, I’ll just kill him too.”
