Exactly. The body is closely guarded (they know that Jerry knows some fucked up Old Magic) until such time that it can be cremated. But, boy, do they celebrate. I imagine that it was a tradition that started with Gondolphus. What he feared the most after Jerry’s Turning was Jerry successfully turning him and/or his family. Once he died, it was over, at least for him. Jerry lost, he won. Gondolphus remained a man and he died a man. The tradition started there and continued from then on out.
Actually, the party that they threw once Jerry finally, truly died was probably part celebration that the family stalker was dead and they were free from him and part wake for Jeremiah. Because, at last, he was at peace.
